Fish storage
Once fish is frozen, it must be stored at a constant temperature of −23 °C (−10 °F) or below in order to maintain a long shelf life and ensure quality. Proper storage results in a shelf life ranging from a few weeks to almost one year.
Parlevliet & Van der Plas Group
The Parlevliet & Van der Plas Group (P&P) is an international enterprise in fishing and processing of fish. Main fishing grounds are in Europe. The fish is (mainly) exported to Africa.
P&P needed a new fish-cooling and -sorting facility on Faroe Islands, Denmark.
Faroe Islands - Denmark
Special about this project was the extraordinary location, the main island of the Faroe Islands, part of Denmark. This required the right materials (coatings, wind pressure) and extensive knowledge about the area & the environment. Faroe Islands (Denmark) can only be accessed by boat or plane.
Building & project management
The project team built a state-of-the-art cooling and storing facility for fish, within 7 months. The new facility is connected to an existing building.
Weather conditions like wind, cold temperature and rain, 288 days a year, made work more difficult.
FFT built cold stores for more than 40 years, all over the world. FFT’s role in this project was not only constructing the cold store, but also to advise and supervise other companies in the team.
