Curing & Spices

The plantations of the farmers under our coffee project have been organic and fair-trade certified. Hence, not only the coffee obtained certification, but also all their other products. This has made these products very interesting for the international market as well.

FFT made a feasibility study to see whether it is economically feasible to process and export both green coffee and spices from Kerela. The prospects have convinced investors to set up both a coffee curing and spice processing plant near Calicut, at a special economic zone or food park.

The spices include flavours like cardamom, black pepper and cacao. Other products cultivated by these farmers are rice and various local vegetables. Both the coffee and spices are stored, cleaned and packaged for export on location and all wear the organic- and fair-trade-certification stamp.
